The Roman amphitheater of Catania, of which a small section is visible today in Stesicoro square, was built probably in the II century on the northern edge of the ancient city, near the Montevergine hill that housed the main part of the town. The area where it is located, which in the past was used as a necropolis, is now part of the historical center of the city. It is part of the Greek-Roman archaeological park of Catania.
